Summerfield has just 11,000 people spread across 27 square miles — that's a lot less density than most Triad suburbs. The median home value here runs around $600,000, and people are paying that premium on purpose. In this guide, I'm breaking down exactly what that premium gets you: the commute, the schools, the shopping, the neighborhoods, and what life actually feels like living in Summerfield.
Where Is Summerfield Located?
Summerfield sits in the northwest corner of Guilford County. Oak Ridge is just below it, Stokesdale is just beyond Oak Ridge, Winston-Salem is to the west, Greensboro is to the south, and High Point is further south as well.
It's rural, but it's not remote. There's a straight, easy shot from Greensboro out to Summerfield, which makes for a genuinely pleasant daily commute if you need to get into the city regularly.
Main Roads & Commute Times
Two roads will make up most of your daily driving life in Summerfield:
Highway 220 — runs north to south and is the road you'll use most for a Greensboro commute
Highway 150 — runs east to west
Highway 73 — another connector, useful if you're heading to the airport
I-840 (the Beltway) — close by and easy to hop on if you need to connect to I-40
Like Oak Ridge, Summerfield only has a couple of main roads in and out, but they make getting around simple.
Drive times from Summerfield:
Downtown Greensboro: about 20–25 minutes
Piedmont Triad International Airport: about 15 minutes
The Triad already has some of the lowest traffic times in the country — on average, only about 6.7 extra minutes spent in traffic — so even though Summerfield feels rural, you're never far from anywhere.
Shopping & Everyday Errands
For bigger shopping trips, Summerfield residents typically head into Greensboro:
Friendly Center — the closest full shopping destination, with a movie theater, a gym, Cheesecake Factory, an Apple Store, a Whole Foods, and dozens of other stores. It's a quick, straight shot via 73 to 840 or straight down 220.
North Elm Street — right off 840, with additional shopping nearby on Lawndale and near the Greensboro Science Center
Spring Garden — another popular shopping corridor
Restaurants & Coffee Right in Summerfield
You don't have to leave town for a good meal. A few local favorites, most within 5–10 minutes of anywhere in Summerfield:
Mama Gina's — local Italian pizzeria
Luigi's Restaurant, Bar & Grill — part of a small shopping complex with several other favorites nearby
Rio Grande — same shopping complex as Luigi's
Sweet Dough — right next to Luigi's
Jumping Bean Coffee Shop — local coffee spot
Food Lion — for everyday groceries, with a Walmart also close by
That same shopping complex also has a beverage barn and a Pilates studio.
Parks, Greenways & Lake Life
If you spend time outdoors, Summerfield has plenty to offer:
Summerfield Community Park and the adjacent Athletic Park, which hosts baseball, football, and soccer
A small dog park in the older part of Summerfield
Piedmont Trail and the Atlantic & Yadkin Valley Greenway, connecting into the larger greenway system that runs through this whole region
Lake Brandt — about 10 minutes away, great if you're into boating, kayaking, or canoeing
Lake Higgins, just on the other side of Lake Brandt
Burmill Park, also close by
You're minutes from multiple recreation spots no matter where you land in Summerfield.
Golf: Greensboro National Golf Club
Greensboro National is the closest golf club to Summerfield — a historic, well-regarded course with a neighborhood built around it.
Schools in Summerfield
Guilford County has been rezoning schools in some areas, so it's always worth double-checking current zoning on the Guilford County Schools website before you buy. That said, here's what's currently in and around Summerfield:
Summerfield Charter Academy — private school located in Summerfield
Summerfield Elementary — a top-rated public school and one of the big draws to the area
Revolution Academy — private school located right off the highway, serving through 12th grade
Northern Guilford High — a top-ranked high school located in Greensboro city limits, typically the closest high school option
Greensboro Day School — another private option nearby
Kernersville, High Point, and the surrounding area add even more choices, including Bishop McGuinness.
Healthcare & Hospitals
Summerfield residents have several hospital systems within reach:
Cone Health — has a location right in Summerfield Village
Moses Cone — about a 20-minute drive
Wesley Long and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist — both accessible in the broader Greensboro area
Additional full-service hospitals in Kernersville (including a VA hospital) and High Point
Plenty of medical facility options throughout the Triad, so you're never locked into just one system.
Best Neighborhoods in Summerfield
A few standout neighborhoods worth touring:
Henson Farm Road
A popular, well-established neighborhood — I've toured several homes here on the channel.
Henson Forest
A large subdivision with an HOA and community amenities including a lodge, pickleball courts, and tennis courts. One of the most popular neighborhoods in Summerfield, and I've sold several homes here.
Polo Farms Drive
Another well-known, in-demand neighborhood in Summerfield.
Armfield Court
Worth a look if you're exploring established Summerfield neighborhoods.
New Construction Neighborhoods
If you're interested in building or buying new, two neighborhoods stand out:
Spencer Hill
Built by Arden, a builder local to the area known for semi-custom homes. Lot sizes here run large — roughly half an acre up to 2 acres — and most homes are on septic and well, which is common throughout Summerfield, Stokesdale, and Oak Ridge.
Lil Grove
Large, mostly flat lots ranging from about half an acre to 1.5–2 acres. Homes here vary widely in size — from around 2,000 square feet single-level up to roughly 4,000 square feet — with prices generally ranging from the high $400s up to around $700,000, though pricing shifts often. It's a quiet neighborhood without a lot of built-in amenities, but the lots and homes themselves are beautiful. A second, nearby neighborhood is also planned, likely with slightly smaller but more semi-custom homes.
